AkzoNobel Packaging Coatings has launched its first coating line in Asia for interior and exterior coating products for metal cans that are Bisphenol-A Non-Intent (BPAni). This significant development was unveiled at the 2024 Metal Packaging Summit held during Cannex Guangzhou.

By introducing this new coating line in Asia, AkzoNobel Packaging Coatings aims to assist can manufacturers and brands in meeting strict regulatory requirements and the growing demand for sustainable packaging coatings in China and across Asia. The establishment of the BPAni production line highlights AkzoNobel’s commitment to addressing local needs and fostering sustainable development within the packaging coatings industry.

George Yang, Regional Commercial Director of Packaging Coatings for AkzoNobel Asia, emphasizes the importance of the new line at the company’s performance coatings site in Shanghai: “With increasing consumer health awareness in Asia, known for being one of the largest food packaging markets globally, there is a rising demand for food and beverage can coatings that prioritize health and environmental considerations.”

Operating alongside the Shanghai Technology Center, AkzoNobel’s new production line, equipped with advanced technologies, will provide reliable and high-quality BPAni packaging coatings for local and global customers in China and throughout Asia. This move aligns with AkzoNobel’s forward-thinking approach and commitment to sustainability within the industry.

The unveiling of the new production line at AkzoNobel’s 2024 Metal Packaging Summit received positive feedback from customers and industry representatives, who lauded the company’s efforts in promoting BPA alternatives and advancing the metal can packaging industry in the region.

Wu Hongjun, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Packaging Federation, commended AkzoNobel’s initiative, stating: “The localized production of Bisphenol-free packaging coatings will elevate the quality and sustainability of the food and beverage metal can packaging industry, ultimately benefiting local consumers.”

Li Cizhou, Chief Engineer of Wang Lao Ji, a renowned herbal tea brand, expressed excitement about AkzoNobel’s pioneering efforts in BPA-free coatings, noting the alignment with international standards and the impact on the sustainable development of the packaging industry.

Chen Yufei, Senior Vice President of ORG Technology, a leading provider of metal packaging solutions in China, shared enthusiasm for BPAni coatings in enhancing safety and sustainability.
