Investor-backed Valeo Foods Group has acquired Appalaches Nature, marking the company’s second foray into the maple syrup industry. This acquisition follows Valeo Foods’ previous purchase of Les Industries Bernard & Fils in Canada in 2022.
Based in Dublin and owned by Bain Capital, Valeo Foods boasts a portfolio of well-known brands such as Rowse honey, Kettle crisps, and Jacob’s biscuits, as well as Batchelors peas and beans. The addition of Appalaches Nature adds to their existing maple syrup brand, Buckwud.
Appalaches Nature, located in Thetford Mines, Québec, operates out of a 100,000-square-foot factory and was established in 2018. The company supplies maple syrup products to the Canadian and US markets, as well as Europe, under brands like Sunny Via, Maple Joe, and Biodelices, offering a range of maple-based products.
The acquisition details were not disclosed, but Valeo Foods generates annual sales of approximately €1.2bn ($1.3bn). The management team at Appalaches Nature will continue to lead the company, which will be integrated with Les Industries Bernard & Fils to leverage synergies between the two businesses.
Ronald Kers, former CEO of 2 Sisters Food Group, heads Valeo Foods and is focused on driving growth through strategic acquisitions. Recent deals include the purchase of Italian cakes and pastries business Dal Colle, as well as UK-based savoury-snacks supplier Freshers Foods and New World Foods Europe, known for Wild West beef jerky.
With a track record of 19 acquisitions since 2010 in Ireland, the UK, and Europe, Valeo Foods is poised for continued expansion in the food and beverage industry. The latest acquisition of Appalaches Nature underscores the company’s commitment to diversifying and growing its portfolio in response to consumer trends and market opportunities.
