The Compleat Food Group, a leader in chilled food manufacturing, has successfully completed the acquisition of the sauces and soups division from convenience food manufacturer Greencore in Bristol. This acquisition received the green light from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), paving the way for new opportunities.

This strategic acquisition significantly enhances The Compleat Food Group’s ambition to establish itself as the UK’s premier provider of chilled prepared foods. Additionally, it aligns with the company’s commitment to its mission of creating “Food to Feel Good.” By integrating Greencore’s operations, Compleat aims to build a robust portfolio that caters to the evolving demands of the market.

Currently, Greencore’s sauces and soups division employs approximately 300 skilled workers at its expansive 50,438 sq ft production facility in Bristol. This site specializes in the production of a diverse range of own-label chilled sauces and soups tailored for various retailers across the UK. Importantly, all employees will transition to The Compleat Food Group and will be retained, ensuring operational continuity at the site.

The acquisition is poised to significantly expand The Compleat Food Group’s capabilities within the lucrative chilled sauces and soups segment. This move builds on the previous acquisition of Zorba Foods, which specializes in dips, sauces, deli fillers, and branded soups, an effort realized in 2024. Furthermore, it follows a series of acquisitions this year, which include partnerships with egg processor Freshpak and The Real Yorkshire Pudding Co.

With this addition, The Compleat Food Group’s total turnover is projected to reach an impressive £1.4 billion. The company will employ over 6,300 individuals across 18 production sites. As a key supplier to UK retailers and foodservice providers, The Compleat Food Group is renowned for its extensive range of own-label products. This includes offerings in the categories of pastry, sweet bakery, party food, olives and antipasti, value-added egg products, continental meats, dips and sauces, as well as plant-based food options.

Furthermore, The Compleat Food Group houses a variety of well-known brands, including Wall’s Pastry, Pork Farms, Wrights, unearthed, Vadasz, Squeaky Bean, Palace Culture, Julienne Bruno, and Harvey & Brockless. This diverse brand portfolio further solidifies the company’s position as an industry leader in the chilled food sector.

Nick Field, CEO of The Compleat Food Group, expressed enthusiasm regarding this pivotal acquisition: “We’re excited to welcome the Bristol team to The Compleat Food Group. This acquisition marks an important step in expanding our expertise in chilled sauces and soups, two categories with strong growth potential.”

Field further elaborated, “By combining this capability with our existing portfolio, we can deliver even greater value for our retail partners and continue to innovate in creating Food to Feel Good.” This commitment to innovation positions The Compleat Food Group to lead in the dynamic chilled food market.
