Tesco has introduced a new range of products made without added nitrites, following a year-on-year increase of more than 360% in online searches for nitrite-free foods.
Produced using 100% British pork, the range is designed for shoppers seeking to reduce or avoid nitrites while still enjoying familiar meat products. The initial selection includes streaky bacon and wafer-thin ham.
Richard Wood, Tesco meat, fish, poultry, eggs and dairy director, commented: “We’re excited to launch our Tesco Made Without Added Nitrites range designed to give our customers greater choice without compromising on taste.
“Our product development teams and supplier partners have worked hard to develop a great quality range made from 100% British pork that is perfect for mealtimes.”
Tesco’s Made Without Added Nitrites bacon products are now available in stores, with the ham selection scheduled to launch on 12th October.
The portfolio will also feature back bacon, cooked ham, smoked ham and honey roast ham. The launch follows Waitrose’s announcement in April that it would introduce nitrite-free alternatives within its own-brand ham range.
