SugaRich has successfully acquired the surplus food processing business of JD Bamber Ltd in Preston. This strategic move enhances SugaRich’s position in the food manufacturing market, particularly as Jim Barber, the director of JD Bamber, approaches retirement.
With facilities based in both northern and southern England, SugaRich has spent over 50 years reprocessing surplus food products from manufacturers, distributors, and retailers into high-quality animal feed ingredients. The company provides a comprehensive national surplus food production service, efficiently managing the entire clearance process from the factory floor to transportation.
This acquisition occurs during a pivotal time when alternative feeding solutions are gaining greater importance. Farmers are increasingly focused on sustainability, and, as SugaRich’s managing director points out, consolidation within the food and feed sector is becoming more pronounced.
Commenting on the acquisition, Alex Keogh, managing director of SugaRich, stated: “It is clear that consolidation in the food and feed sector is accelerating, aligning with our growth strategy. We remain committed to expanding our UK presence and delivering innovative solutions for surplus foodstuffs to a broader customer base.”
“This move not only strengthens our presence in the UK but also reinforces our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and excellence in the co-products industry. We are excited to welcome new partners and customers and look forward to building a stronger, more dynamic business together,” added Andy Newton, CEO of the SugaRich Group.
In the coming weeks, SugaRich will transition the production operations of JD Bamber into its existing sites, further solidifying its leadership in the food manufacturing sector.
