Mathiesons, a prominent supplier of stollen and chilled bakery cakes in the UK, has recently enhanced its production capabilities by installing a new VMI Mixer. This strategic move aims to elevate production levels and enhance the quality of its products to meet the demands of major retailers.
Established in 1872, Mathiesons is a well-known Scottish Bakery with a distinguished reputation for its secret recipe stollen and a wide range of delectable baked goods distributed across Scotland and the UK. The company, headquartered in Larbert, Scotland, takes pride in being recognized as the top stollen supplier in the UK, with a seasonal workforce of 220 employees.
Over the years, Mathiesons has established itself as a key player in Scotland’s bakery industry, earning the title of Edlers in other parts of the UK for its renowned pastry cases. Transitioning from a coffee shop business, the company now focuses solely on its array of delightful products and operates three manufacturing units specializing in chilled goods, bakery/confectionery, and a dedicated nut production facility, which is now home to the recently installed VMI Mixer.
According to Nick Wills, Managing Director of Mathiesons, “After using a 12-year-old mixer, it was time for a replacement as the software was becoming outdated and parts were hard to source.” Following thorough consultations and site visits, the decision was made to opt for the SPI 400AV mixer from VMI, recommended by the efficient and knowledgeable team at EPP.
The installation process of the new mixer was seamless and efficient, with EPP ensuring a smooth transition from the old equipment to the new one. The training and documentation provided by EPP were instrumental in the successful integration of the new mixer into Mathiesons’ operations.
Impressed by the performance of the VMI Mixer, Mathiesons’ staff noted its ability to handle high-density dough with consistency, significantly increasing production rates to 12 tonnes per week. The upgraded mixer completes batches in a shorter time, managing increased capacity effortlessly, and proving to be a valuable asset during peak production periods.
Ged, an area sales manager at EPP, expressed satisfaction with Mathiesons’ adoption of the new equipment, stating, “We’re delighted Mathiesons is happy with the latest addition to its equipment range. The mixer’s gear driving mechanisms ensure it is trusted within the industry, and we are always confident it’s the best product to fulfill customer’s needs.”
