Switzerland’s IDAK Food Group recently acquired Italian pizza maker Sorrento Sapori e Tradizioni for an undisclosed amount, as announced on May 5.

Headquartered in Eboli, southern Italy, Sorrento Sapori specializes in manufacturing frozen pizza snacks. The company serves national and international airline caterers, various catering companies, and retailers, employing approximately 100 individuals.

The pizza production will continue unchanged at Sorrento Sapori’s facility in Eboli. This acquisition aligns with IDAK Food Group’s strategy to enhance its product offerings.

IDAK Food Group focuses on frozen foods, notably in the pizza sector.

“Sorrento Sapori is the ideal strategic fit for our group of companies. With this acquisition, we are significantly expanding our range in the pizza and pizza snacks sector. Furthermore, we recognize the growth potential of Sorrento Sapori e Tradizioni and aim to leverage it to boost demand from our international clientele,” stated IDAK CEO Christof Lehmann.

“We have a strong and visionary partner for the next growth steps who acts decisively and thinks entrepreneurially,” remarked Roberto Savarese, Managing Director and previous owner of Sorrento Sapori.

“In terms of innovative spirit, customer orientation, and quality management philosophy, IDAK shares values that resonate with our own,” he added.

IDAK’s portfolio includes the Swiss potato snacks company Kadi, acquired in 2019, and the pizza maker Margherita Spa, based in Fregona, north-east Italy, acquired in 2020. Recently, in 2023, IDAK also expanded into confectionery and baked goods with the purchase of Romer’s Hausbäckerei.

In February, Römer’s Hausbäckerei acquired fellow Swiss bakery business Kern & Sammet for an undisclosed sum.

Earlier, IDAK was acquired by London and New York-based investment firm TowerBrook Capital Partners in July. Towerbrook purchased a majority stake from former owners Invision and Nord Holding for an undisclosed amount.

In 2024, IDAK employed around 1,200 individuals and generated sales exceeding CHF260m ($315m).

Sorrento Sapori was established in 2001 by Roberto Savarese, Antonino Esposito, and Luigi Apreda. It achieved €33m ($37m) in sales in 2024.
