Heck! has recently invested £150k in solar energy at their headquarters, installing 433 solar electricity panels. These panels are capable of generating 200,000 kwh per year, covering 20% of the energy needed to power the factory. With a £48,950 grant from the UK government’s shared prosperity fund, the company expects to save 45 tonnes of carbon per year.

In addition to the solar panels, Heck! is focused on sustainability initiatives in their journey to net zero. This includes the launch of the Heck! ‘Care Code’ which covers initiatives across health, environment, community, and kindness.

The Kirklington site has seen over £5m in investments into production over the past four years, with a recent £3.5m allocated for factory expansion in 2021, leading to the creation of 20 jobs. Co-founder Jamie Keeble stated, “We’ve made a commitment to our consumers and retail customers to show a transparent sustainability journey. We have measured our emissions for three years now, and managed a 30% reduction. We recently measured Scope 3 emissions and are identifying opportunities for further reductions. Our first annual impact report will be published this year.”

The UK shared prosperity fund, which has provided £2.6bn of funding for local investment by March 2025, supports businesses in their journey towards net zero. Richard Flinton, chief executive of North Yorkshire Council, emphasized the importance of supporting companies like HECK! Food in reaching net zero goals.

Furthermore, a global survey has shown that 83% of respondents are actively trying to reduce their carbon and water footprint, and are willing to pay more for sustainably produced products, such as beer, to help combat global warming.
