Tetra Pak has recently announced the expansion of its homogenizer portfolio, introducing machines made with Outokumpu Circle Green stainless steel. This innovative material boasts a significantly lower carbon footprint – up to 93% lower than the global industry average for stainless steel.

The introduction of this new material aligns with Tetra Pak’s commitment to sustainability in food manufacturing. The Circle Green stainless steel option will be available for all models in Tetra Pak’s homogenizer line in Europe starting from June, with plans for a global rollout later in the year.

With around 7% of global carbon dioxide emissions attributed to the steel industry, incorporating sustainable materials like Circle Green stainless steel is crucial in reducing overall greenhouse gas emissions. By choosing homogenizers with Circle Green stainless steel hoods, food and beverage manufacturers have a tangible pathway to reducing their Scope 3 emissions, which are essential for achieving net-zero goals.

The adoption of Circle Green stainless steel in homogenizers can lead to significant emissions reductions ranging from 160kg to 1370kg per machine. This strategic collaboration with Outokumpu, the leader in sustainable stainless steel, is just the beginning of exploring various applications of Circle Green across Tetra Pak equipment to further support sustainability goals.

Niklas Wass, the executive vice president for stainless Europe at Outokumpu, emphasizes the crucial role of low-emission stainless steel in driving sustainability solutions worldwide. This collaboration with Tetra Pak exemplifies a concrete step towards reducing emissions in manufacturing processes.

Fiona Liebehenz, vice president of key components plant solutions and channel management at Tetra Pak, highlights the integration of Circle Green into their product portfolio as a significant move towards leveraging innovation to improve upstream emissions and reduce customer site emissions. Collaboration is key in driving both Tetra Pak’s and its customers’ sustainability goals, ensuring a commitment to protecting the environment.

This introduction of sustainable materials into Tetra Pak’s product portfolio aligns with their mission to achieve net-zero across the value chain by 2050. It represents a holistic approach towards addressing emissions in food and beverage manufacturing, demonstrating a forward-thinking strategy to support environmental sustainability goals.
