Founded in 2007 in Sabroso de Aguiar, AgroAguiar specializes in a diverse array of ultra-frozen fruits, catering to both retail and food industries. Their most popular ultra-frozen offerings include individualized red fruits and mixed varieties tailored to client specifications, in addition to peeled and ultra-frozen chestnuts.
The company opted to invest in a second packaging line tailored for the retail sector, aiming to enhance delivery efficiencies during peak seasons in spring and summer. Furthermore, AgroAguiar sought a flexible solution that would enable exploration of innovative packaging formats, such as padded bags and doypacks—both with and without zippers—to cater to unique customer needs and evolving market trends. An essential objective was also to bolster the reliability and efficiency of the packaging line.
All investment criteria were successfully fulfilled by the 14-head Ishida multihead weigher, model CCW-RVE-214W-1S-30-WP-ENH2.
“While the main reason for this investment was to strengthen our packaging capacity, we also sought to reduce the number of overweight packages that our existing line produced on a daily basis,” explained Rodrigo Reis, CEO of AgroAguiar.
“Ishida’s reputation for high performance and outstanding weighing accuracy were the main factors in our decision to choose this multihead weigher supplier, and we have already seen a clear improvement in the consistency of the pack weights.”
The CCW-RVE’s consistent weighing accuracy is largely due to its Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technology, allowing for superior control of product flow through Ishida vibrators and during hopper transfer. The capability to automatically adjust both the amplitude and duration of vibration results in a controlled and consistent product flow, maintaining speed and efficiency while virtually eliminating hopper overfill.
Moreover, embossed surfaces enhance the seamless product flow through the weigher.
While still fine-tuning the new line, AgroAguiar is already achieving double the capacity of the previous packing system. Rodrigo Reis believes that, once optimization is complete, the company will be positioned to triple the packaging capacity compared to the old line.
The Ishida CCW-RVE operates for up to ten hours a day, managing pack weights ranging from 300g to 1kg. AgroAguiar reports that the weigher is user-friendly in setup, and its waterproof construction makes for quick and easy cleaning.
The multihead was supplied by Ishida’s Portuguese agent, Divertec, which offered comprehensive training to operators. “We received very fast and professional service from Divertec throughout the sale, installation, and training,” stated Rodrigo Reis.
“We are very pleased with the Ishida multihead weigher,” he continued. “In terms of return on investment, it has significantly reduced our delivery times from the outset, thus enhancing our service to customers. Consequently, this improvement allows us to explore new markets and opportunities, as well as continue expanding our business, enabling us to better meet the evolving needs of current and potential customers.”
