Carlsberg, the Danish multinational brewer and producer of renowned beer brands such as 1664 Blanc, Kronenbourg, and Tuborg Green, has committed €30 million (US$31.7 million) to enhance its Kronenbourg brewery located in eastern France. This investment follows €25 million spent on the facility over the past four years.

The primary focus of this new investment will be the upgrade of the bottling, packaging, and storage facilities within the brewery, Carlsberg stated. The automation of the packaging line will enable the facility to bottle an impressive 60,000 beers per hour. Additionally, the installation of a new palletiser will enable the production of half-pallets, making it simpler for customers to display them in retail establishments.

Carlsberg acquired Kronenbourg in 2008 from Heineken, as part of an agreement which granted Heineken the rights to brew and sell Kronenbourg in the UK from its Manchester facility. In 2018, Carlsberg invested €100 million in Kronenbourg to further facilitate modernization, capacity expansion, and advancements in environmental health and safety.

Former CEO of Carlsberg, Cees ‘t Hart, emphasized the importance of investments for the continued growth of the company, stating, “In order to continue to grow, we need to invest, and today’s announcement is a testament to our shared values and promising growth opportunities.”

Furthermore, Kronenbourg has recently changed its name to Brasseries Kronenbourg to reaffirm its identity as a brewing company, explained Anders Røed, Chairman and CEO.

This strategic investment by Carlsberg demonstrates its commitment to remaining at the forefront of the brewing industry, catering to evolving market demands and embracing new technologies.
