Meatless Farm, a UK meat analogue maker, has entered administration. Insolvency firm Kroll has been appointed as joint administrator, and the company has not yet made an official statement. Meatless Farm is not the only plant-based meat producer facing difficulties, as co-manufacturer Plant & Bean and sausage maker Heck have also experienced setbacks. Some experts believe that these challenges indicate a challenging period for the plant-based sector, while others remain hopeful for the future of meat alternatives. However, director of consultancy New Nutrition Business, Julian Mellentin, argues that many plant-based meat brands have failed to understand consumer demands and are unlikely to be financially viable. Chief executive of the British Meat Processors Association, Nick Allen, also believes that the plant-based meat sector will continue to struggle due to its failure to meet consumer preferences. Despite these setbacks, proponents of the industry believe that the sector is maturing and will continue to expand if it can deliver high-quality, affordable, and convenient plant-based products.
