Puratos Acquires US Company Dawn Foods to Broaden Its Global Presence Food and Beverage Business

In a significant development in the food and beverage industry trends, Puratos is poised to expand its global footprint by acquiring Dawn Foods, a company renowned for its substantial international presence.

Founded in 1920 and headquartered in Michigan, US, Dawn Foods employs nearly 4,000 individuals worldwide. They collaborate with over 50,000 artisanal and retail bakers and food service firms across more than 100 countries, strongly impacting food manufacturing trends.

Puratos, established in 1919, has transformed from a small family business into a leading player in the food processing technology sector. The company now operates 75 production units across 52 countries and holds subsidiaries in 84 countries.

With a strong focus on food science, Puratos employs over 10,800 people, including more than 1,200 dedicated R&D researchers and technical advisors. Their 119 innovation centers globally emphasize expertise in fermentation, sourdough, grains and seeds, patisserie classics, and chocolate craftsmanship, strengthening their position in food and drink industry innovation.

Commenting on the merger, Pierre Tossut, CEO of Puratos, stated that the agreement represents “a major long-term step for Puratos.” This aligns with current food distribution trends that favor expansion and collaboration.

Moreover, Tossut added: “Dawn Foods is a highly respected company with capabilities that complement our own. The agreement shows our ambition to further expand our footprint and capabilities within a space we know well, understand deeply, and have successfully developed over generations.”

Philippe Arnauts articulated to Food Manufacture that this amalgamation will enhance their capacity to serve customers whose needs increasingly span both efficient production and innovative technology-driven solutions in baking and sweet goods applications.

“Dawn Foods and Puratos bring together highly complementary strengths in the UK — Dawn’s expertise in authentic American sweet baked goods and large-scale production, alongside Puratos’s R&D-led innovation capabilities, allowing us to better serve UK customers across a wider range of needs,” Arnauts noted.

Carrie Jones-Barber, CEO of Dawn Foods, emphasized: “Dawn has grown into a global business by staying focused on what matters most – our people, our products, and the customers we serve.” This echoes the broader context of food and drink sustainability and regulations critical to the industry.

“As we looked to the future, it was essential to find a partner aligned with our values and long-term vision. Like Dawn, Puratos is a family-owned company with a strong heritage and a deep commitment to people, quality, and the baking industry.”

The acquisition of Dawn Foods is anticipated to finalize by the end of 2026, pending customary regulatory approvals. Until then, both companies will operate as independent entities, with no immediate changes to day-to-day operations or customer relationships.
