Nestlé has announced that it is investing in Yield Lab Latam’s sustainability fund, which supports organizations developing packaging and utilizing regenerative farming practices. A Nestlé spokesperson stated, “Nestlé is investing in Yield Lab Latam as part of its commitment to support a transition to regenerative agriculture” and to “strengthen local innovation infrastructure.” The company recognizes that nearly two-thirds of its greenhouse gas emissions come from agriculture and has committed to regenerative agriculture to offset some of these emissions. Nestlé is particularly interested in implementing regenerative agriculture in the dairy industry and has already launched 80 projects in 11 countries throughout Latin America.

Yield Lab Latam, which has offices in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico, has already invested in a variety of companies. These include Eiwa from Argentina, a management platform for seed, crop protection, and crop nutrition corporations; Sioma from Colombia, a startup that uses technology to improve productivity for tropical farmers; SpaceAG from Peru, a company providing crop growers with insights during the growing season; and Agroforte from Brazil, a digital bank supporting small and medium meat and poultry producers.

This partnership between Nestlé and Yield Lab Latam reflects a shared vision to help the food production ecosystem address industry challenges. Santiago Murtagh, managing director of Yield Lab Latam, stated, “We are leveraging our proximity to local entrepreneurial talent and the reach of our network of innovation centers. From this local position and the regional experience of having invested in seven Latin American countries, we can act as a bridge between investors in the food industry and innovative solutions for the sustainable production of healthy, nutritious, safe and accessible food for the next generation.”

By working with external partners and promoting regenerative agriculture, Nestlé is taking steps towards strengthening the sustainability and efficiency of the agri-food industry across Latin America.
