Fischer Farms, a leading salad-growing company, has announced the appointment of Chris Kirke as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). With an impressive background spanning over 26 years in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry in both the United States and the United Kingdom, Kirke brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. Previously, he served as president at Moy Park for more than six years, and before that, he spent over a decade with Greencore US, where he held significant leadership positions including managing director and CEO.
In his role at Fischer Farms, Kirke will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations while also steering the strategic direction of the company. His leadership comes at a pivotal time as Fischer Farms aims to enhance its operational efficiency and expand its market presence.
Meanwhile, Tristan Fischer, the founder of Fischer Farms, will transition to the role of group CEO. In this capacity, he will continue to serve as the visionary force behind the company, directing its global expansion efforts. Fischer will concentrate on future initiatives, which include driving innovation and research and development (R&D), as well as nurturing the company’s brand and culture.
Tristan Fischer will collaborate closely with Kirke and the chairman, John Stapleton, to not only grow the existing business but also to explore new opportunities through Fischer Farms Foods and Fischer Farms Technology. Together, they aim to elevate the company’s profile among current and potential investors and stakeholders, fostering a robust network for the company’s future growth.
Expressing his enthusiasm about joining Fischer Farms, Kirke stated, “It is an exciting time to join Fischer Farms, as the business continues to scale, expand its production from leafy greens to a future producing soft fruit, rice, wheat, soy, and peas, and attract widespread commercial interest from major retailers and food service providers. Tristan and the team have established an innovative, forward-thinking business, and I am very much looking forward to bringing my knowledge and expertise to Fischer Farms to drive commercial growth and expansion.”
Kirke further emphasized the significance of vertical farming in today’s agricultural landscape, stating, “Vertical farming offers real promise when it comes to creating a more sustainable food supply chain, delivering high-quality fresh produce, with minimal impact on the planet. It is fantastic to be part of the vertical farming revolution, and through my work here at Fischer Farms, I hope to play my part in shaping the future of the industry as a whole.”
Tristan Fischer welcomed Chris Kirke to the team, stating, “I am delighted to welcome Chris to Fischer Farms. Chris’ knowledge and experience of the food sector, particularly in the US, will be invaluable as we continue to scale up and attract more commercial partners in the coming months.”
He elaborated, “While Chris focuses on today, I will be focusing on tomorrow, continuing to drive forward Fischer Farms’ ultimate goal – to safeguard food security on a global scale. I am very much looking forward to working with Chris and together, shaping the future for Fischer Farms and the wider vertical farming industry. This strategic move positions Fischer Farms to meet the growing demand for sustainable, locally-produced food while delivering value to our investors and partners.”
In a recent report by Food Management Today, the company’s significant investment in innovation was highlighted through its collaboration with Clegg Food Projects, which has led to the successful construction of the “world’s biggest vertical farm” for Fischer Farms. This ambitious £25 million project was completed in November 2023, marking a significant milestone in Fischer Farms’ journey towards redefining sustainable agriculture.
