B&G Foods is selling additional brands to fellow US food manufacturer McCall Farms as it continues efforts to simplify its portfolio and reduce its debt burden.

The deal includes B&M, whose product range is recognised for baked beans and brown bread, as well as Joan of Arc, which produces kidney beans, chili beans and other canned bean products.

The companies did not provide financial details for the transaction.

New Jersey-headquartered B&G Foods said in a statement that it intends to allocate the deal’s net proceeds to the repayment of long-term borrowings.

At 4 July, B&G Foods reported total debt of $2.52bn. This included $513.8m in current debt and $2.01bn in long-term liabilities.

Robert Mills, president and CEO of B&G Foods, described the transaction as “another step in our efforts to simplify our portfolio, focus on our core brands and strengthen our balance sheet”.

Mills added: “We remain focused on taking actions that support profitable growth and reduce leverage. We believe McCall Farms is the right owner for these brands going forward.”

The agreement is the second deal announced between B&G Foods and McCall Farms in slightly more than 12 months.

In August 2025, B&G Foods divested its US Le Sueur shelf-stable vegetable business to McCall Farms for an undisclosed amount. The operation focuses on canned peas, green beans and carrots, with proceeds from that sale also earmarked for debt reduction.

The latest disposal comes after a recent setback for B&G Foods. Earlier this month, the company ended an agreement to sell its Canadian Green Giant and Le Sueur operations to Nortera Foods after Canada’s Competition Bureau sought to prevent the transaction on antitrust grounds.

Nortera continues to serve as Green Giant’s main co-manufacturer in Canada, while B&G Foods considers other strategic routes for the business.

In March, B&G Foods completed the sale of its US Green Giant frozen food assets to Seneca Foods. The company had already sold Green Giant’s US shelf-stable division to the same buyer in 2023.

B&G Foods reported a smaller net loss for the second quarter ended 4 July, although it continued to post a loss.

The company’s net loss narrowed to $4m from $9.8m in the year-earlier period. Net sales declined 9.7% year on year to $383.3m, while operating income increased 57% to $34.6m despite the lower revenue.
