Aldi to Launch New Store Weekly Through the End of 2025 Food and Beverage Business

Following the announcements regarding new store openings in London and Deeside, Aldi has expanded its plans to include new locations such as Eastbourne in East Sussex, Nelson in Treharris, Waterbrook in Kent, Houghton le Spring in Tyne and Wear, Meadowfield in Durham, Litherland in Liverpool, and Brimington in Chesterfield.

Moreover, an additional 35 existing stores will undergo refurbishments before the year’s end, aligning with current food manufacturing trends.

The discount retailer plans to invest approximately £650 million across the UK through its comprehensive store opening and refurbishment programme in 2025. Each new store is projected to generate around 40 jobs, reflecting a strong commitment to food distribution trends.

In June, Aldi announced its intentions to recruit 1,000 new store positions as part of its aggressive store expansion strategy. Currently, Aldi store assistants earn a starting hourly wage of £12.75, which increases to £13.66, while in London, the starting rate is £14.05, eventually rising to £14.35.

Commenting on the expansion plans, Aldi UK’s Managing Director of National Real Estate, Jonathan Neale, stated: “At Aldi, our goal is to make sure people across the UK have access to affordable, high-quality food, and opening new stores is key to making that happen.”

“We’re now opening an average of one new store a week for the rest of 2025, demonstrating our ambition to build a store network that will help us reach millions of new customers. However, it’s not just about openings; it’s also about ensuring we have the best-paid teams in place to manage them.”

According to Kantar data, as of July 13, 2025, Aldi has become the fourth-largest supermarket chain by market share in Britain, overtaking Morrisons with a 10.9% share, following Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and Asda. This growth reflects significant food and drink industry innovation.
