Aldi, the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket chain with over 1,070 stores, is set to open five new locations within a single day this week.
These new stores, located in Uxbridge, Old Kent Road, Northallerton, Pershore, and Yate, will collectively generate approximately 200 new jobs in the local communities.
The openings in Uxbridge and Old Kent Road, London, along with Northallerton and Pershore, are scheduled for Thursday, December 11. Meanwhile, the new Yate store in Bristol will launch on Friday, December 12.
This expansion is part of Aldi’s comprehensive £650 million investment initiative focused on store openings and refurbishments projected for 2025. Furthermore, Aldi has recently committed to a substantial £1.6 billion investment over the next two years, which will facilitate the opening of 40 new stores each year.
Aldi aims to achieve a total of 1,500 stores throughout the UK, demonstrating its commitment to growth in the competitive food and drink sector.
This announcement follows Aldi’s recognition as the ‘Which? Cheapest Supermarket for November,’ a title it has maintained for four consecutive years.
Jon Neale, real estate managing director at Aldi UK, stated: “Opening any new store is exciting, but opening five in 24 hours, just before Christmas, will make a huge difference for customers in each of these areas. It reflects the demand we’re seeing right across the UK and the scale of our ambition as we continue to grow.”
“We’re committed to growing in the right places, with the right teams, bringing our low prices and high-quality products to even more communities – and we’re committed to moving as fast as we can to deliver that.”
Additionally, the retailer announced it is extending its price freeze on baby formula until summer 2026, coinciding with the government’s measures to educate parents about the affordability of infant formula.
Aldi will maintain the price of its Mamia First Infant Formula at £6.99, having previously pledged to hold the price through the end of 2025.
