Zalmhuys Group, a Netherlands-based fresh and frozen fish major, recently acquired a minority stake in local supplier Anova Seafood. This strategic move signifies a new phase of collaboration and growth for both companies within the seafood market. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Anova Seafood, established in 1994 by Constant Mulder and Willem Huisman, supplies a variety of internationally-sourced fish to European retail, foodservice, and wholesale customers. The company transferred its frozen line to Norwegian supplier Seafood Connection in 2018.
Anova’s fresh and chilled fish range, based in ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the Dutch province of North Brabant, includes a diverse selection such as perch from the African Great Lakes, North Atlantic cod, Vietnamese pangasius, and saithe from the Nordics. Zalmhuys Group, on the other hand, describes itself as a market leader in fresh, frozen, and smoked salmon, distributing its products globally to various customer segments.
Zalmhuys Group’s CEO, Harm ten Napel, expressed optimism about the partnership with Anova, highlighting the potential for growth and enhanced market positioning in the seafood industry. With a focus on all seafood offerings in one place, the collaboration aims to leverage the experience and product portfolio of Anova to strengthen the overall business.
The acquisition of Anova Seafood complements Zalmhuys Group’s existing brands – Ocean Fish, Affish, Affish Fresh, and Het Urker Zalmhuys – and expands its reach in sourcing seafood both locally and internationally. By combining strengths and expertise, the companies are poised for a prosperous future together.
