VFC Foods Ltd has agreed to acquire Clive’s Purely Plants, a plant-based manufacturer of pies, quiches, and nut roasts. This strategic move not only expands VFC’s portfolio but also promises to boost the group’s annual sales by 30%. Clive’s is the second brand acquisition for VFC Foods in less than four months, following the purchase of Meatless Farm in June. These acquisitions demonstrate VFC’s commitment to the growing demand for plant-based products.
Clive’s, known for its high-quality artisanal products, including plant-based pies, tarts, and quiches, has gained popularity in retailers like Waitrose, Ocado, Asda, and Abel & Cole. Furthermore, a new listing from a major retailer is expected to be announced in December.
Under the leadership of managing director Esther Pearson, Clive’s has experienced impressive growth in the grocery retail sector over the past two years. VFC recognizes and appreciates Clive’s dedication to producing small-batch, top-notch products, resulting in widespread acclaim and daily deliveries throughout the UK.
Pearson expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with VFC Foods, stating, “We are thrilled to have found a like-minded partner to support us through this period of accelerated growth. We remain committed to delivering exceptional customer service while ensuring business continuity with all existing customers.”
As part of this acquisition, Clive’s will operate as a subsidiary of VFC Foods, while Pearson will continue to be a shareholder at Clive’s. Additionally, VFC Foods will acquire Clive’s Dartmouth production facility, marking their first venture into primary manufacturing. With increased production capacity, VFC Foods aims to capitalize on the rapidly expanding plant-based food sector.
Group CEO Dave Sparrow emphasized the strategic significance of this acquisition, stating, “Adding Clive’s to our portfolio, following the successful integration of Meatless Farm, positions us as a formidable player in the market. With three strong brands experiencing substantial growth, we are well-positioned to penetrate the retail and foodservice sectors in the UK and Europe. What sets us apart is the wide range of products we offer, from enticing meat alternatives to wholesome and delicious vegetable-based options, making us one of the most diverse players in this category.”
Sparrow concluded, “Having witnessed Clive’s impressive growth under Esther Pearson’s leadership as a non-executive director, this acquisition was particularly appealing. We eagerly anticipate working closely with Esther and her team to seamlessly integrate Clive’s into our expanding family of brands.”
