Unilever initiates discussions with investors for ice-cream sale Unilever Food and Beverage Business

Unilever has declined to comment on reports that they are in talks with investors about potentially selling their ice cream business. The consumer goods giant announced in March their plans to potentially spin off the ice cream division into a separate listed entity. Initial discussions have reportedly begun with a group of investors, including CVC Capital Partners, who could potentially acquire the business for as much as £15bn ($19.4bn).

Other potential buyers such as Advent International, Blackstone, Cinven, and KKR are also reportedly involved in the discussions with Unilever. The final decision on the future of the ice cream division is not expected before the end of 2025.

Last year, the ice cream division generated €7.9bn in turnover for Unilever, while the company’s other food businesses brought in €13.2bn. Unilever’s beauty and wellbeing, personal care, and home care divisions also contributed significant revenues.

The potential sale of the ice cream business has raised questions about the future of food within Unilever’s portfolio. Both CVC and KKR have previously worked with Unilever on acquisitions, further fueling speculation about the outcome of these discussions.

Overall, the future of Unilever’s ice cream business remains uncertain as the company explores different options to maximize returns for shareholders. The potential sale could have wider implications for the company’s food and beverage industry trends and future business strategy moving forward.
