Panos Brands, a US food group, has recently announced its acquisition of smoked salmon producer The Santa Barbara Smokehouse. Established in 2005, The Santa Barbara Smokehouse is known for smoking salmon in an open fire kiln using full logs. This acquisition marks Panos Brands’ second in 2024, following the purchase of Tessemae’s Salad Dressings and Condiments in January.
“We are excited to partner with customers to expand availability of this distinctive smoked salmon across foodservice and retail channels,” said Tim Brown, founder and managing director of The Santa Barbara Smokehouse. The company’s products are currently available in traditional retail outlets and foodservice channels.
Darcy Zbinovec, CEO of Panos Brands, highlighted the differentiation of SBS products in the marketplace. The portfolio aligns with consumer trends, such as the demand for super-premium quality and the interest in better-for-you foods rich in protein and omega-3.
Panos Brands was acquired by US private-equity firm HKW in 2016 and was previously owned by Dutch healthy food business Wessanen. The acronym “Panos” reflects the company’s mission to offer premium, authentic, natural, organic, and specialty foods. The company operates across various consumer food categories, including dairy and snacks, and serves multiple channels.
