Nestlé is undertaking an expansion project at a plant in Germany dedicated to producing products for congenital metabolic disorders. The world’s largest food company recently broke ground on this project and aims to finish construction at the Rosbach vor der Höhe site, north of Frankfurt, by next spring.

Located in Rosbach vor der Höhe, Nestlé’s Vitaflo business is responsible for brands like Mevalia and Comidamed. Acquired by Vitaflo in 2021, these brands cater to individuals with rare, congenital protein metabolism disorders, such as phenylketonuria. The business, which employs over 300 people and supplies products to more than 40 countries, is investing over €8m ($8.6m) in the facility to enhance production capabilities.

Nestlé CEO for Germany, Alexander von Maillot, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “By investing in innovations and utilizing cutting-edge technology, Vitaflo provides pioneering nutritional therapies with clinical and health-economic value to enhance the quality of life for those affected.”

David Jobse, the managing director of Vitaflo in Germany, highlighted the significance of this investment in the factory renovation, enabling the company to maintain high-quality production standards. With exports to numerous countries worldwide, Vitaflo aims to meet the growing demand for their specialized dietary products effectively.

The expansion project aligns with Nestlé Health Science’s focus, which generated sales of SFr6.5bn ($7.2bn) in fiscal 2023. Despite challenges, such as a 3.2% drop in real internal growth (RIG) for the business unit, Nestlé remains committed to driving organic growth and increasing competitiveness in the food and beverage industry.
