French poultry processing major LDC is set to acquire the Konspol Poland brand and factory from agri-food giant Cargill. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed. The plant, located in Nowy Sącz in southern Poland, reported a consolidated turnover of €35m ($38m) in 2023. Following the acquisition, around 600 employees will transfer to LDC.
LDC’s Polish subsidiary, Drosed Group, will enter the ready-meals sector through this acquisition. The factory will produce a variety of products such as breaded items, burgers, sandwiches, tortillas, and gyozas. The French group expressed confidence in the potential of the facility, stating that it will enhance production capabilities and leverage a skilled workforce.
The companies aim to finalize the acquisition by the end of the year. Cargill had acquired Konspol in 2018. Drosed Group, which employs around 3,500 people and operates six plants in Poland, reported sales of approximately €370m in the previous year. Some of its prominent brands include Drosed, Podlaski, Zagrodowy, and Drop.
In other news, LDC recently entered discussions to acquire local salads and tabbouleh producer Pierre Martinet. The group is currently in exclusive negotiations to purchase 100% of the company’s capital. This move aligns with LDC’s active involvement in mergers and acquisitions. At the beginning of 2024, the company announced talks to acquire Groupe Routhiau, a family-owned meat producer. Additionally, in November, LDC revealed negotiations to acquire Polish turkey manufacturer Indykpol from Rolmex, the business’s longstanding owner since 1991.
