Freiberger Makes Investment in German Pizza Manufacturing Suedzucker Food and Beverage Business Freiberger

Freiberger, a prominent pizza manufacturer based in Germany, has announced plans to expand its production facility in Berlin. This initiative aims to modernize the site and enhance accessibility while significantly increasing manufacturing capacity.

As a key player in the food and beverage industry, Freiberger is undertaking this project as part of a broader strategy that involves investing “hundreds of millions” to bolster its pizza business. This includes the recent establishment of a new factory in the UK, aimed at optimizing production capabilities.

Currently, construction is underway at Freiberger’s Berlin site, where upgrades to the logistics infrastructure and office spaces are also being made. The CEO, Thorid Klantschitsch, emphasized that these investments are not only about expanding capacity but also enhancing the working environment for both existing and future employees. The company’s commitment to continuous improvement aims to strengthen its competitive position in the food and drink business.

In a statement, Klantschitsch remarked, “With our investments in the capital, we are not only expanding our capacities and strengthening our market position at one of the most important locations in Germany. We are also improving the working environment for our current and future employees and strengthening our cost leadership.”

Recently, Freiberger has made headlines with its substantial investment of €45 million ($49.7 million) in a new frozen pizza production facility at its UK subsidiary, Stateside Foods. This funding is directed at establishing a plant specifically for frozen pizza products within the existing manufacturing site in Bolton, which is near Manchester. The construction is expected to be completed soon, with production anticipated to commence by the first quarter of next year.

Moreover, in July, Freiberger’s US subsidiary, Richelieu Foods, divested its sauces and dressings division to focus more on its pizza segment. This move aligns with the strategic direction defined by its parent company, German sugar giant Südzucker, which acquired Richelieu Foods in a $435 million deal in 2017.

Since its establishment in 1976, Freiberger has been a reliable manufacturer of various savory baked products, including chilled and frozen pizzas, tarte flambées, ready-to-eat pasta meals, and more. Its products are distributed in 30 European countries, as well as markets in the US, Canada, and South Africa. Since 1998, Freiberger has operated as a wholly owned subsidiary of Südzucker, further solidifying its foundation within the food and drink consumer trends.
