Fenwick Food Group, an operating platform for food businesses, has acquired US company Wickles Pickles, a supplier of pickles and spreads. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed, as announced by CPG investor and Fenwick Food Group owner Fenwick Brands. Wickles Pickles, formed in 1998 by brothers Will and Trey Sim alongside Andy Anderson, manufactures pickled products and is hitting an inflection point where investment and additional resourcing is needed for scale.
In a statement, Fenwick Food Group expressed that the new partnership is “synergistic” and aligns with the long-term vision and strategy for the brand. Wickles Pickles co-founder Will Sims stated, “Fenwick is the perfect partner to accelerate the brand’s growth trajectory while preserving its identity and operating roots.”
Melissa Baker, president and CEO of Fenwick Food Group, added that both companies “were aligned on the long-term vision and strategy for the brand, which cemented the partnership.”
The VC group also owns local brand Moore’s Marinades and Sauces and looks to curate a food platform with a handful of brands that could benefit from a shared team, investment, and operational synergies. The acquisition of Wickles Pickles is more relational than transactional as it adds to the existing Alabama-based brands under Fenwick Food Group. Both Moore’s and Wickles are expected to consolidate their headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.
The existing Wickles business, up until now based in Dadeville, Alabama, is expected to move its headquarters to Birmingham where Moore’s main offices are also located. Baker noted that “Scale is becoming increasingly more difficult and expensive, and we want to help similar brands with strong consumer demand stay around.”
The expanded Fenwick Food Group is poised to bring together similar brands in the food and beverage industry that would benefit from shared resources and investment, thereby fostering operational synergies and solidifying their position in the food and drink consumer trends. Wickles Pickles has been contacted for more information on its suppliers in the US, its number of production sites, and employees.
