The employee-owned company has experienced rapid growth, expanding its Go Local fascia to over 1,100 stores. In the last financial year, the company saw a significant increase in like-for-like sales, totaling £605m, with a 4.7% growth. This achievement can be attributed to the company’s investment in protecting retailer margins through an expanded promotional program, including notable events such as the annual Parfest.
As a result of its success, Parfetts awarded all eligible colleagues a 4% tax-free sales bonus in July. Guy Swindell, the joint managing director of Parfetts, emphasized the company’s commitment to placing retailers at the forefront of their business. Being an employee-owned company allows them to allocate resources towards creating favorable margins and providing an exceptional experience, both in-store and online.
Looking ahead, Parfetts aims to aggressively expand its Go Local, Go Local Extra, and The Local fascias. Alongside their efforts to grow, the company proudly showcases their newly-established depot in Birmingham, which sets industry standards and enables them to effectively serve the Midlands and M40 corridor.
The company’s recent annual celebration of the convenience sector, Parfest, also contributed to their remarkable success. Parfest 2023 resulted in record sales of over £21m across all eight Parfetts depots. This week-long event incorporated enticing deals, complimentary festival food, live music, and engaging supplier activations, all aimed at helping retailers increase their profit margins.
To demonstrate their commitment to sustainability, Parfetts is investing in initiatives to reduce their carbon footprint. One such effort involves the implementation of LED lighting and solar panels across all their depots in the UK. This endeavor not only aligns with their environmental goals but also generates cost savings that benefit the entire business.
Noel Robinson, the joint managing director of Parfetts, acknowledges the importance of providing an outstanding experience for their retailers across all channels. The company has made significant investments in digital platforms and logistics to ensure the reliability and scalability of their delivery services. As a result, online orders have grown steadily and now account for 40% of their total sales, without impacting cash and carry sales. This expansion into the online market allows Parfetts to extend their reach and support more retailers.
Parfetts opened its eighth depot in Birmingham in March, and its performance has exceeded expectations. One notable success story is independent retailer Mohammed ‘Naz’ Nazir, who became the region’s first Go Local store after operating under the Costcutter fascia since 2010.
Currently, Parfetts operates depots in Aintree, Anfield, Birmingham, Halifax, Middlesbrough, Sheffield, Sommercoates, and Stockport. With a geographical coverage spanning from Northumberland to Wales, the Midlands, and Northamptonshire, the company continues to expand its presence and deliver exceptional service to its customers.
