The Post Office has recently secured a new contract with the Government Digital Service (GDS) to provide identity verification services for individuals who require additional support to access GOV.UK One Login, the platform used for central government services. This face-to-face service will be offered by Postmasters and their teams in approximately 1,000 Post Offices across the country.
Previously, users had to create separate logins for multiple services, but with GOV.UK One Login, they only need to input their information once, simplifying the process. Already implemented with 22 services, over 2.19 million people have successfully used this platform to verify their identity.
Nick Read, the CEO of the Post Office, expressed delight in extending their collaboration with the government in the realm of identity services. Postmasters, known for their trustworthy and personal service, will play a crucial role in ensuring that individuals can verify their identity when accessing public services. This new contract will not only generate additional revenue but also drive more footfall to those branches that provide a full range of identity checks.
Emphasizing the importance of face-to-face identity verification, Elinor Hull, the identity services director, stated that the Post Office is the leading provider of this service in the UK. Regardless of whether people choose to utilize the EasyID app, complete the verification process online, or visit a branch in person, the Post Office aims to support individuals and businesses with their identity requirements, ensuring that nobody is left behind in an increasingly digital world.
This contract builds upon the Post Office’s achievement last June, when it became the first certified identity services provider in the UK. Together with its partner Yoti, the Post Office enabled digital verification for various purposes such as Right to Work, Right to Rent, and Disclosure and Barring Service applications.
In conclusion, the Post Office’s extended partnership with the GDS reinforces their commitment to providing secure and efficient identity verification services. By offering a reliable face-to-face option, backed by their physical presence and expertise, they continue to be the go-to destination for identity services across the UK.
