Sue Nithyanandan, owner of Costcutter Epsom in Surrey, recently attended her inaugural meeting and is delighted to become the first female member. She expressed her nerves, considering the other seasoned retailers in the group. However, she was warmly welcomed and is eager to see the progress we make together.

This development reflects the growing confidence of women in the retail industry. While they have always played a significant role behind the scenes, more and more women are now assuming leadership positions.

In her Costcutter business, Nithyanandan works alongside her husband, Subramaniam, and notes the distinct roles they each fulfill. She primarily focuses on product selection, market trends, and utilizing social media, while her husband ensures smooth operations and takes care of financial responsibilities.

A notable aspect of Nithyanandan’s staff is its predominantly female composition, with only two men among 15 employees. She appreciates being a woman in the retail sector, believing that their unique perspective brings valuable insights to the table.

Recognizing the recent appreciation for women’s contributions in retail, Nithyanandan commends the Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) for establishing a dedicated women’s group. Such initiatives play a pivotal role in acknowledging and supporting women in the industry.
