Danone is proudly celebrating the 30th anniversary of Actimel by introducing Actimel+ Triple Action, further underscoring its commitment to health and balanced nutrition.
The Actimel+ Triple Action range is set to roll out progressively in 20 countries across Europe, with the launch commencing in September 2024. By leveraging Danone’s extensive science and innovation expertise, the new Actimel+ Triple Action offers enhanced health benefits to millions of Actimel consumers throughout Europe. This product is fortified with essential vitamins D and B6 to support the normal function of the immune system, magnesium to combat tiredness, and vitamin C for its antioxidant properties.
Recent research highlights that immunity has consistently remained a priority for consumers over recent years. In fact, when surveyed, 62% of individuals indicated that a healthy immune system is a fundamental aspect of their definition of health (Source: Euromonitor, Food for Body and Mind, 2022).
At Danone’s Research and Innovation Centre in Paris-Saclay, a team of immunology experts is rigorously studying the impact of diet on preventing immunity-related disorders, including allergies, recurrent infections, and autoimmune diseases. Given that 70% of the immune system resides in the gut, it plays a pivotal role in bolstering immunity.
Danone affirms that the new nutritional benefits and recipe of the Actimel+ Triple Action range will support the immune system by providing 100% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin D, protecting the body’s cells through the antioxidant properties of vitamin C, and alleviating tiredness and fatigue thanks to magnesium enrichment.
According to research, 40% of Europeans do not meet their recommended daily intake of vitamin D, with many also experiencing deficiencies in magnesium and vitamin C (source: Cashman KD et al. Vitamin D deficiency in Europe: pandemic? Am J Clin Nutr. 2016;103:1033–44).
In response to these nutritional gaps, Actimel has developed a recipe that incorporates billions of beneficial ferments, including Danone’s exclusive L. casei, which is essential for cultivating good bacteria vital for gut health. Actimel employs a unique 72-hour slow fermentation process to create optimal conditions for the growth of L. casei cultures. This method results in a higher concentration of these beneficial cultures in each serving. Notably, Actimel is the most scientifically studied immunity shot, with over 145 scientific papers examining the properties and effects of Actimel and its exclusive L. casei strain.
Pablo Perversi, president of Danone Europe, remarked on how food has entered a new era, emphasizing its growing role in health: “Consumers are now more aware than ever of the importance of gut health and immunity, seeking food and drinks that support this. We are investing in our brands as part of our Renew Danone strategy and expanding our footprint by offering new ranges with more health benefits. Actimel, one of our flagship brands, will continue to play a crucial role in driving the future growth of the dairy category in Europe.”
The Actimel Triple+ range will be available in enticing flavors, including peach-passion fruit, strawberry pomegranate, blueberry-blackberry, and orange-peach. This exciting new range will gradually be available in all major European retailers across 20 countries and will be produced in Belgium and Spain.
Alongside the launch of the new range, Danone has announced various sustainability initiatives across its Actimel offerings aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and plastic usage:
- Optimizing factories to utilize a 100% renewable electricity supply
- Offering larger bottles that contain 17% less plastic compared to the quantity found in small bottles
- Reducing the weight of plastic bottles by 40% and achieving corresponding reductions in emissions between 1994 and today
- Eliminating labels from small bottles, resulting in savings of 868 tonnes of plastic last year across Europe.
