DropWorks Distillery has proudly launched its inaugural product, a brand-new, unique genre of British rum known as Clear Drop Rum, to retailers and hospitality venues. The innovative spirit is smooth, crystal clear, and created within Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, which is home to Europe’s largest rum distillery.

Founder and industry expert Lewis Hayes created the brand to coincide with cultural movements like Britpop, and it is marketed as a new genre of British rum – commonly known as Brit-rum. The aim of DropWorks is to introduce limited-edition “Drops” – different styles of rum created through a fermentation and distillation process – so that everyone can find a rum they love in addition to its core range of products.

Clear Drop Rum is produced using a long, slow distillation process utilizing only the highest quality cuts. It contains rich flavors of fresh blueberries, vanilla ice cream, and banana created by DropWorks’ own cultivated yeast strain, Trinity Yeast.

The unique process utilizes three custom-made, bespoke stills, including the first Double Retort still in England, and two raw materials – Molasses and Organic Cane Juice Honey – which are fermented, distilled, and blended on site. The “deflagmator” at the top of an eight-plate column creates an elongated reflux to ensure the smoothness of the rum. The entire distillery spans 17,000 sq ft production facility, and an 8,000 sq ft barrel store with a three-mile underground tunnel for storing the casks.

Since 2020, DropWorks has received £1.8m in private funding, which has been invested in the distillery, flavor development, and top-of-the-range bespoke copper equipment used in the distillation process.

Lewis Hayes noted that rum has much more to offer than what is currently available on the market, and at DropWorks, they are excited to launch a “truly high-quality and unique rum that is accessible.” They aim to create something new, exciting, and better without unnecessary additives, making Clear Drop Rum the new face of rum, injecting a new lease of life into the category through added vibrancy and innovation.

Each 70cl bottle of Clear Drop Rum contains 45% alcohol and will retail at £35.00. DropWorks is committed to continuously bringing new and innovative rum products to the market through new processes and ways of flavoring products while defining a new genre of rum built on diversity and quality, inspired by similar British cultural movements like Britpop.

In conclusion, DropWorks has created something unique and exciting within the rum category. Brit-rum is growing in production, and DropWorks is leading the charge with its bespoke, innovative approach to flavoring rum.
