EU Greenlights Boparan Private Office's Acquisition of German Turkey Company Food and Beverage Business

Brussels has officially confirmed that the transaction, initially announced in February, does not present any competition issues and has now reached completion. Consequently, the German turkey producer will now integrate into the European sector of the Storteboom Food Group, which is fully owned by Boparan Private Office.

Located in Ahlhorn, Lower Saxony, Heidemark employs around 2,300 individuals across five facilities and generates a revenue of £662 million. Over the past two years, the group has evolved from a prominent manufacturer and marketer of turkey meat in Europe into a diversified poultry expert through “strategic decisions and acquisitions.”

Ranjit Boparan, president of BPO, expressed satisfaction with the approval from the European Competition Office regarding the acquisition of Heidemark. He stated, “Our combination strengthens our group’s ‘Next Gen’ strategy for advanced automation, innovation, productivity, and net-zero sustainability.”

He went on to highlight that, “Heidemark is a third-generation family business with a reputable brand. Our objective is to preserve and enhance their legacy, making the Heidemark family proud.” He emphasized that this acquisition expands their European footprint and aligns with their international growth objectives, noting the mutual learning opportunities between Heidemark and BPO.

The leadership of Heidemark, including CEO Andres Ruff and his team, will remain in place and continue to “systematically work on the implementation of its growth plans” as part of the Storteboom Food Group. BPO has indicated that the Heidemark brand will continue, with existing management and staff retained.

All current facilities will remain operational, and “further investments” are anticipated for future development. Ruff remarked that, “The European Commission’s approval marks a significant milestone for Heidemark. Our employees, farmers, and customers have welcomed the merger.” He added, “As a hub for turkey production excellence in Europe, we are committed to bringing our extensive experience, innovation capabilities, and market insights to the Storteboom Food Group.”

He concluded by stating, “Together, we are establishing a foundation for continued organic growth in continental Europe while also enhancing sustainable and competitive poultry production.”
