Amcor has broadened its beverage offerings by introducing a new 38mm carry handle designed for PET containers. This innovation is specifically crafted to address the burgeoning market for bulk convenience, providing an effective solution for the packaging of large-format water and non-carbonated beverages.

This launch responds directly to the growing consumer preference for purchasing bulk beverages. Key developments—such as the rise in remote work, an increase in the use of home and office water dispensers, and a heightened interest in outdoor activities—have contributed to a surge in demand for larger container sizes, typically ranging from 5 to 10 litres.

For beverage brands aiming to transition into these bigger formats, the significant challenge has often been the weight of traditional handles and their environmental impact. Amcor’s new 38mm carry handle effectively addresses these operational hurdles.

When coupled with the closure, this 38mm handle offers a remarkable 34.5% reduction in weight compared to conventional 48mm options in the industry. Such a substantial decrease in plastic use enables beverage producers to greatly minimize their raw material expenses and lessen scope 3 emissions associated with transportation, all while using a robust, high-capacity container.

Notably, lightweight construction does not compromise safety during transport or user convenience. Designed for large rigid PET containers up to 10 litres, the handle features a sturdy, ergonomic design, ensuring consumers maintain a firm and secure grip when moving heavier liquids.

To guarantee the integrity of the packaging throughout the demanding logistics process, the handle includes specialized retention tabs. These tabs grip the bottle neck firmly, preventing any slippage or detachment during handling.

Additionally, the handle is highly compatible with manufacturing lines, fitting bottles with standard 38mm necks. Moreover, it is fully cross-compatible with Amcor’s Proxima Tethered Closure and is compatible with a range of the company’s existing beverage cap systems.

“This innovative 38mm handle arrives at an opportune moment, as more consumers are seeking water and non-carbonated drinks in bottle sizes ranging from 5 to 10 litres,” remarked Uli Kobert, product line manager for beverage closures and home care triggers at Amcor. “It offers a consumer-friendly solution that simplifies carrying.”
