Tropicana has entered the functional hydration market with its new product line, Tropicana Hydrate+. This launch signifies a strategic advancement for the brand, merging its longstanding fruit expertise with the electrolyte-enhancing characteristics generally associated with sports and wellness beverages.
As the functional drink sector continues to expand, Tropicana reports a 31% rise in sales within this category since 2022, accompanied by a remarkable 1,000% surge in online searches related to hydration over recent years. Tropicana Hydrate+ aims to provide a “natural pick-me-up” for consumers seeking the advantages of a sports drink without artificial additives or an overpowering medicinal taste. The product line includes two main flavors:
1. Pineapple with Coconut Water
2. Mango with Coconut Water
Each variant is crafted with a blend of coconut water and authentic fruit juice, enhanced with magnesium to support electrolyte balance, along with a mix of five essential vitamins (B1, B2, B6, C, and E).
While various functional beverages prioritize streamlined ingredient lists, Tropicana emphasizes flavor. “Our research consistently shows that great taste still comes first for consumers,” stated Liz Ashdown, marketing director at Tropicana Brands Group. “With 79 years of fruit-blending expertise, Tropicana is perfectly placed to deliver both. Hydrate+ builds on what people already love about Tropicana, combining delicious fruit with functional hydration.”
The brand is tapping into a consumer insight that reveals over a quarter of soft drinks are now primarily selected for hydration, even though many consumers hesitate to shift from their familiar juice brands to the “thinner” experience of functional waters.
Tropicana Hydrate+ will initially be available in 850ml take-home cartons (SRP £3.50), targeting family breakfasts and wellness for those working from home. Recognizing the need for convenient, on-the-go options, the brand has announced plans to introduce a 300ml single-serve bottle later this year.
The new range is currently being rolled out across major retailers in the UK, including Asda.
