Taylor Farms boosts CEA produce range with Equinox Growers buy  Taylor Farms Food and Beverage Business

Taylor Farms is expanding its presence in controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) through the acquisition of Equinox Growers from Generate Capital.

Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.

In a statement, the US-based fresh foods company described the deal as its largest investment in CEA to date, positioning the business to capitalise on growing consumer demand for greenhouse-grown produce.

T Bruce Taylor, senior vice president of marketing and product at Taylor Farms, said: “Retailers and consumers alike are increasingly seeking long-term, reliable access to greenhouse grown produce.

“We are taking a major step forward into controlled-environment agriculture as this acquisition allows us to continue diversifying our raw product supply – both in geography and growing method – while meeting the rising demand for high-quality greenhouse-grown salads.”

Equinox Growers operates a large-scale leafy greens greenhouse in Louisa, Virginia, which Taylor Farms described as the largest commercial greenhouse facility in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Following completion of the deal, the existing Equinox team will continue to manage day-to-day operations, while the site is integrated into Taylor Farms’ broader product portfolio and cold-chain distribution network.

The company said the addition of the facility, combined with its established logistics infrastructure, will enhance product freshness and improve access to locally grown greens across the eastern United States.

Headquartered in Salinas, California, Taylor Farms operates across North America, with facilities in the US, Canada and Mexico, and reports annual revenues of approximately $7.3bn.

The acquisition of Equinox Growers is the latest in a series of strategic investments by the family-owned business aimed at strengthening its global footprint.

In November, Taylor Farms acquired UK-based leafy salad producer Natures Way Foods, a Chichester-headquartered business employing around 1,300 people and producing a range of bagged salads, coleslaw and potato salads.

Earlier in 2025, the company also completed the acquisition of Bonduelle’s packaged salad operations in Germany, alongside Foodiverse, the Spanish group in which Taylor Farms took a stake in 2023.

In addition, in December 2024, Taylor Farms invested in Hessing, a Netherlands-based fresh produce processor and distributor serving markets including Germany, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands.
