The global landscape is decisively transitioning to a model where performance and environmental accountability are inextricable. While effective material protection remains critical, industry leaders increasingly acknowledge that true value lies in solutions that encompass the product lifecycle. Simply protecting goods from corrosion and damage is insufficient; packaging must also adhere to the highest sustainability standards and circular economy principles. Regulatory drivers, such as the upcoming EU PPWR Regulation, further emphasize the importance of materials that simplify end-of-life management.
As the European subsidiary of Cortec® Corporation, EcoCortec®, located in Croatia, is dedicated to innovating materials that facilitate this transition. This includes developing certified biodegradable and compostable solutions alongside advanced post-consumer recycled (PCR) packaging. By prioritizing innovation, EcoCortec® enables manufacturers to achieve zero-compromise performance in corrosion protection while also providing environmentally friendly solutions. The EcoCortec green portfolio includes films and bags engineered for corrosion protection while ensuring safe return to the earth at end-of-life, thus securing a cleaner, more responsible future for the industry.
EcoWorks® patented films and bags are ideal for applications such as checkout bags, lawn and leaf bags, organic waste diversion, as well as various industrial and commercial uses. When introduced into a typical commercial composting environment, these products fully biodegrade within months. EcoWorks® is composed of resin certified by BPI (Biodegradable Products Institute) as compostable in municipal and industrial facilities according to ASTM D 6400 (BPI certificate #890974-6).
Eco-Corr Film® ESD is a biodegradable and compostable high-performance anti-static, corrosion-inhibiting film and bags tailored for protecting static-sensitive multi-metal items, such as electronics. These products retain permanent anti-static properties that effectively reduce or eliminate static buildup while in use, irrespective of humidity levels.
EcoFilm® is a certified commercially compostable film designed to replace traditional polyethylene films. Its shelf and curb stability ensure that it retains its integrity until properly disposed of in commercial composting facilities. This makes it an excellent choice for large-scale organic waste programs.
EcoShrink™ is specifically designed for standard heat-shrinking applications and is also certified to major compostability standards. It breaks down into non-toxic substances (H2O, CO2, and biomass), leaving no microplastic residue. After use, it can be disposed of in commercial composting settings, significantly reducing plastic packaging waste that typically ends up in landfills.
Eco Wrap® is a specialty compostable wrapping film created with certified compostable resin and a tackifier additive. It runs efficiently on existing stretch film equipment with minimal adjustment to tension settings. Most applications that require three wraps of standard film can utilize two wraps of Eco Wrap® without compromising strength or protection. Eco Wrap® is commercially certified compostable, thus avoiding tariffs and penalties in regions where polyethylene is restricted.
EcoBio™ Barrier Paper is a new premium recyclable, repulpable, biodegradable barrier paper tailored for a variety of short-term packaging applications where moisture or grease poses a challenge. It begins its lifecycle as 100% recycled paper stock featuring a biobased coating (90-100% renewable organic carbon per ASTM D6866) designed to be biodegradable (per OECD 301). This product contains no intentionally added plastics or harmful chemicals that could impede recycling or biodegradation. Furthermore, EcoBio™ Barrier Paper can be recycled through standard paper recycling streams rather than being relegated to landfills. Its biobased coating opens up additional sustainable end-of-life options based on local regulations. Notably, EcoBio™ Barrier Paper effectively addresses moisture and grease resistance without contributing to plastic or foil pollution.“The move toward genuinely sustainable packaging is not just an economic and environmental imperative. Products like EcoBio™ Barrier Paper are vital because they allow industries to maintain product integrity and safety without sacrificing the planet. Its features make it incredibly appealing as a direct replacement for conventional plastic packaging, especially when considering its potential to include specialized features such as superior barrier, anticorrosion, and ESD properties,” says Boris Miksic, CEO of Cortec Corporation. “Our certified sustainable VCI/VpCI packaging line delivers uncompromised corrosion protection while guaranteeing a plastic-free end-of-life, whether through recycling, compostability, or biodegradation,” he concludes.
