Horizon Family Brands, based in the US, has successfully acquired Maple Hill Creamery, a notable supplier of grass-fed organic dairy products.

The precise financial terms of this acquisition remain undisclosed.

In a statement issued on December 1, Horizon expressed that this acquisition will enhance its portfolio of “better-for-you” food and beverages while fortifying its position across various retail channels.

Tyler Holm, the chief executive of Horizon, remarked that Maple Hill’s expertise in grass-fed organic dairy would “complement” Horizon’s existing operations.

“Together, we will be better positioned to serve our customers, support our farmers and suppliers, and drive innovation and growth in the organic dairy industry,” he stated.

Furthermore, the company conveyed that this acquisition would not only broaden access to grass-fed organic products but also unite resources and expertise to “accelerate” product development and create fresh “opportunities” within the organic dairy sector.

Horizon also indicated that the combined entity would benefit from “stronger” supply chains and “complementary” capabilities focused on enhancing efficiency and resilience.

Additionally, Horizon asserted that this transaction would bolster support for sustainable farming and regenerative agriculture practices.

Formerly known as Horizon Organic, Horizon Family Brands was part of Danone until its sale to Platinum Equity in early 2024.

On the other hand, Maple Hill Creamery, established in 2009, specializes in 100% grass-fed organic dairy while emphasizing regenerative agricultural practices.

In 2016, Sunrise Strategic Partners, a US-based investment group established by ex-Boulder Brands CEO Steve Hughes, acquired a non-disclosed minority interest in Maple Hill, in collaboration with private-equity firm Trilantic North America.

Jim Hau, the president and CEO of Maple Hill, stated: “Joining forces with Horizon is an incredible opportunity to amplify Maple Hill’s mission and impact. This partnership is about more than growth. It’s about shared values, supporting sustainable farming practices and delivering the highest quality 100% grass-fed organic dairy products to consumers.”

He further added: “We see this as a great opportunity to build a stronger future for the organic dairy space through the enhancement and growth of the Maple Hill grass-fed organic product offering.”
