US importer and distributor Vilore Foods has acquired Mexican-style food business Tia Lupita Foods, marking a significant milestone in the food and beverage packaging sector.

While financial details remain undisclosed, this strategic acquisition reinforces Vilore’s commitment to food quality.

Based in Texas, Vilore Foods is known for distributing leading Hispanic brands, including La Costeña, Jumex, and Totis.

The company stated that this acquisition signifies its “official entry into the natural foods space” and aligns perfectly with its “mission to bring culturally rich products to modern consumers.”

Edgar Vargas, Director of Growth and Brand Development at Vilore Foods, emphasized that this partnership highlights the company’s “powerhouse expertise in distributing and championing Hispanic food brands in the US market.”

He noted, “As more US households seek trusted and authentic culturally connected products, we have monitored Tia Lupita Foods’ growth and potential; we believe this partnership will elevate the brand to new heights.”

Tia Lupita Foods, founded in 2016 by Hector Saldivar in California, specializes in gluten-free, non-GMO, and preservative-free products such as hot sauces and grain-free tortilla chips.

Saldivar remarked that Vilore Foods “understands the cultural roots that drive our brand and has the reach and experience to place our products on more shelves and in more kitchens nationwide.”

In 2023, Tia Lupita Foods gained national recognition on the US business pitch show Shark Tank, successfully securing investment from Kevin O’Leary.

Since that time, the brand has expanded its product range and distribution across the US. Vilore Foods noted that, with its backing, Tia Lupita Foods is poised for further growth.

O’Leary commented, “From day one, I believed in your mission to bring healthier, authentic Mexican flavors to the table, and you delivered. You built a brand that resonates with modern consumers while honoring tradition. This acquisition by Vilore Foods is a perfect match and a powerful validation of everything you have worked for.”

Tia Lupita Foods’ products are currently available at major retailers such as Whole Foods Market and Target.

The Mexican, and more broadly, Hispanic food sector in the US has attracted significant corporate interest recently.

Notably, last October, PepsiCo made headlines by acquiring Siete Foods, a Mexican-American snacks maker, for an impressive $1.2 billion.
