As a partner of Retail Trust, BP’s 6,700 colleagues working at company-owned retail sites in the UK, along with their families, will have access to a range of personalized wellbeing resources. These resources include a virtual GP, counseling services, and support.

Sonya Adams, VP of mobility and convenience retail UK at BP, stated, “Day after day, colleagues across our nationwide network of convenient roadside locations help us deliver strong, compelling offers to meet the evolving mobility and convenience needs of our customers.”

In order to achieve our goal of increasing the number of touchpoints customers have with BP to more than 15 million per day globally, we recognize the importance of investing in and taking care of our colleagues. As partners of Retail Trust, we will provide our teams with tools that enhance their health and wellbeing while supporting the valuable work the Trust is doing to support retail workers in the UK.

Since 2019, Tracey Clements, BP SVP of mobility and convenience Europe, has been participating in the Retail Trust ambassador program, which consists of over 40 senior leaders. Through this program, health in retail is championed by raising awareness and promoting crucial fundraising initiatives.

More than 200 major British retailers collaborate with the Retail Trust to improve the mental health of the retail workforce, which has been facing declining morale across the industry.

According to the Retail Trust’s Health of Retail report in June, a survey of 1,500 retail staff revealed that 80% are experiencing declining mental health. This decline is due to concerns about finances and abuse from customers. Additionally, more than eight out of 10 retail managers expressed a need for more mental health training to support their teams’ wellbeing.

Through the partnership with Retail Trust, BP will also have access to their new “better you” happiness assessment. This assessment provides tailored data, insights, and plans to manage wellbeing across the business. Furthermore, it offers staff a personalized program of clinically-advised support. The Retail Trust will also provide accredited training to over 300 BP store managers, enabling them to effectively support the wellbeing of their teams.

Chris Brook-Carter, CEO of Retail Trust, expressed, “We are partnering with BP to provide its people with vital support, tools, and training needed to boost their wellbeing and take care of one another.”

We encourage organizations, regardless of their shape or size, to join us in partnering with the Retail Trust. Retail workers continue to face significant uncertainty, including rising levels of abuse in-store.

Overall, this partnership represents BP’s commitment to prioritizing the health and wellbeing of their colleagues while aligning with the valuable initiatives of the Retail Trust to support the retail workforce in the UK.
