In an exciting development, Amul is officially entering the European fresh milk market. This initiative kicks off in major cities such as Madrid and Barcelona, with plans for expansion into Portugal and other regions. This strategic partnership merges Indian and Spanish dairy expertise, reinforcing Amul’s global vision for growth and outreach.

In June 2025, the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Limited, commonly known as Amul, joined forces with the Cooperativa Ganadera del Valle de los Pedroches (COVAP), a prominent Spanish cooperative. The collaboration aims to introduce Amul milk not just in Spain, but also across the European Union.

The official launch was celebrated at the Embassy of India in Madrid, attended by notable figures such as H.E. Dinesh K Patnaik, Ambassador of India to Spain, and D. Fernando Heredia Noguera, Deputy Director for International Relations and Community Affairs at the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. Additionally, Ricardo Delgado Vizcaíno, President of COVAP, along with senior representatives from both Amul and its Spanish distribution partners, were present at the event.

Amul stands as the world’s largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative, boasting a community of 3.6 million dairy farmers. The Amul brand is not only recognized as the world’s strongest dairy brand but also ranks as India’s largest consumer products group, with an impressive turnover exceeding USD 11 billion and managing over 12 billion liters of milk annually.

According to the IFCN, Amul is the 8th largest milk processor globally, operating 112 dairy plants throughout India, with a total milk handling capacity of 42 million liters per day. This operational scale highlights Amul’s significant role in the dairy industry.

COVAP, a leading cooperative founded in 1959 in Pozoblanco, Córdoba, comprises over 2,000 active farmer-members. This cooperative is a vital component of Andalusia’s agri-food sector, with a state-of-the-art dairy plant processing over 400 million liters of milk annually. Notably, COVAP exports its products to more than 30 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and various markets across Asia.

Through this strategic partnership, Amul Milk will initially roll out in Madrid and Barcelona. Following this launch, it will expand to cities such as Malaga, Valencia, Alicante, Seville, and Córdoba, as well as Lisbon in Portugal. Looking ahead, Amul also has plans to introduce its milk and other product lines in prominent European markets, including Germany, Italy, and Switzerland.

“This is the first time that Amul fresh milk is being launched in Europe. It is our great pleasure to bring the taste of India to the world, in alignment with the vision of our Honourable Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, to make Amul a global dairy brand. We at Amul are confident that in 2025, the International Year of Cooperatives, as declared by the United Nations, our team will bring the brand Amul closer to every Indian across the world and showcase the power of cooperation between cooperatives.”

Following its initial launch in the U.S. market, Amul milk has since become a familiar product, now available in over 35 states across the United States, including both Indian grocery stores and major retail chains like Costco.
