Müller has acquired family-owned UK dairy company Yew Tree Dairy to enhance its export business and drive supply-chain resilience. The undisclosed deal includes Yew Tree’s milk powder operations, which Müller plans to further develop in Skelmersdale, Lancashire.
Once the acquisition is finalized, Müller intends to invest significantly in the Skelmersdale milk drying site to boost its capacity and capabilities. This move will position Müller as a major producer and exporter of powdered milk products from Britain.
CEO of Müller Milk & Ingredients, Rob Hutchison, emphasized the company’s commitment to growth and building a better future for the sector through this strategic investment.
Yew Tree Dairy director, Carl Woodcock, expressed optimism about the acquisition, stating that joining forces with Müller will open up new growth opportunities for the business, benefiting employees, farmers, and customers in the long term.
The deal is pending approval from the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority, showcasing Müller’s compliance with regulatory processes.
This acquisition aligns with Müller UK & Ireland’s position as a leading dairy company under Germany-based Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller, known for manufacturing branded and private-label dairy products sourced from 1,300 British farmers, in addition to offering a plant-based product range.
In a previous move, Müller sold its UK milk delivery business, Milk & More, to local dairy group Freshways, emphasizing the company’s strategic focus on core operations.
