Meatable, an innovative producer of cultured meat, is actively working to bring its cultivated pork products to market, with Singapore serving as its primary launch country, followed by the US. The country’s status as the only nation to have authorised the production and sale of cultivated meat made it the natural choice for Meatable’s initial market entry. Singapore launched this initiative as part of its 30 by 30 strategy, aimed at creating a self-sustaining agri-food industry capable of producing 30% of the country’s nutritional needs by 2030. Following its approval by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), Meatable anticipates its official launch in 2024.

The company’s proprietary opti-ox technology, which eliminates the need for foetal bovine serum (FBS) and requires only one cell sample to create meat, has helped to establish Meatable as a leader in the field. Meatable has also formed a partnership with ESCO Aster, a contract manufacturer, and Love Handle, a plant-based butcher, to prepare for its market launch in Singapore.

Meatable is making progress toward entering other countries, including the US, where its representatives are in conversation with experts and authorities. The company expects to expand to additional regions based on regulatory approvals, including China, Japan, Israel, Australia, and New Zealand.

In Europe, Meatable is working closely with regulators to gain regulatory authorisation for its products, a process that can take up to six years. The company is also collaborating with the Dutch government to invite select individuals to taste its product before launching in the Netherlands and the rest of Europe.

Meatable recently achieved a significant milestone by obtaining approval from the SFA to hold cultivated meat tastings, giving the start-up the green light to launch in Singapore. A select group of retail partners and the Singaporean Economic Development Board (EDB) were invited to try the company’s cultivated pork sausage product at the tasting event, which received favourable reviews of the texture, taste, and overall deliciousness of the product.

Meatable plans to organise more tastings in the coming months globally, potentially presenting an opportunity for this innovative company to disrupt the meat industry.
