Asda has welcomed David Lepley this month, who transitions from his previous role at Morrisons to become the retailer’s new Chief Supply Chain Officer. He will also be a key member of Asda’s executive team moving forward.

This newly established position underscores Asda’s commitment to enhancing its food and general merchandise supply operations, with Lepley at the helm. His leadership will be critical to optimizing the supply chain, a vital component in food manufacturing efficiency.

Lepley brings a wealth of experience, having spent the past five years as Group Retailer Director at Morrisons. His prior experience as Operations Director further solidifies his credentials in the grocery sector.

Originally joining Morrisons from Asda in 2016, Lepley has an extensive background in the industry. He began his career as a Christmas temp in the Grantham store and progressed to become Vice President for Online Grocery Operations.

Lepley’s appointment is part of Asda’s broader leadership changes, which also include the selection of Ade McKeon as Vice President for Ambient.

On his LinkedIn profile, Lepley expressed enthusiasm for his new role, stating: “I’m very proud to share that I’m returning to my roots and starting a new position as Chief Supply Chain Officer at Asda.”

Furthermore, Asda Executive Chair Allan Leighton, who made his return to the retailer in November 2024, commented: “Delivering the outstanding value and legendary service our customers demand begins with making sure they can get the products they want every time they shop with us.”

“David has considerable experience in grocery logistics and supply chain, and I am delighted that he is coming home to Asda to lead this key area for the business.”

Regarding other appointments within the organization, Leighton remarked: “Asda’s mission is to deliver the value ordinary working people, and their families demand from us. To do this, we need to be and are rediscovering our ‘Asda-ness’. I’m delighted to be announcing these leadership changes as we start this journey.”

Leighton previously served as Asda’s CEO from 1996 to 2001 and has held senior positions with Canadian retail giant Loblaw Companies and Co-op in the UK.
