UPM Raflatac, a global leader in sustainable labeling solutions, proudly announces its collaboration with Eurostampa on the groundbreaking Envelope 2024 project. This year’s initiative highlights advanced design and eco-friendly materials, illustrating the harmonious blend of technology and creativity. After undergoing innovative printing techniques, the labels will be featured at Luxe Pack 2024 in Monaco, from September 30 to October 1.
Eurostampa, recognized for its premium labels in sectors such as wine, sparkling wine, spirits, chocolate, food, and cosmetics packaging, has engaged in collaborations with students from the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo, Italy, and the DAAP (Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning) Program at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, for several years. This year’s project involved two student groups, each overseeing distinct parts of the process. The Pollenzo group focused on marketing, developing a creative brief in alignment with brand guidelines. Conversely, the Cincinnati students operated as the graphic agency, crafting label designs that reflect each brand’s unique character in relation to the brief.
This joint venture aimed to expand the possibilities of label design by experimenting with both new and existing technologies, materials, and printing methodologies. The students collaborated with Eurostampa’s designers to create seven labels for notable brands such as Bacardi, Nutella, Jose Cuervo, Fior di Sole, and Perrier Jouet, ensuring they resonate with the expectations of Generation Z consumers.
UPM Raflatac contributed its expertise to the collaboration, providing innovative and sustainable label materials, as well as offering Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) data through the company’s Label Life by UPM Raflatac service.
The Envelope showcased innovative label materials, including UPM RAFLATAC HIPSTER WSA PCR-FSC and UPM RAFLATAC FOREST FILM™ PP CLEAR. The Hipster WSA PCR-FSC presents a warm, elegant white tone with a textured surface, lending it a distinct appearance. This material is crafted from 100% recycled fiber in the face paper. Meanwhile, Forest Film PP Clear stands out as the world’s first certified wood-based plastic label material, offering a bio-circular solution that diminishes reliance on fossil-based plastics. Produced using bio-naphtha derived from wood-based crude tall oil, it maintains the same quality, performance, and recyclability as traditional plastic labels.
“Our label materials act as a canvas for these beautiful designs. This collaboration allows us to showcase our commitment to sustainability and innovation. We look forward to presenting the creative solutions that emerge from this partnership,” states Stefano Pistoni, Senior Manager, Business Development, Wine & Spirits and Beverage, UPM Raflatac.
“At Eurostampa, we are dedicated to nurturing innovation and creativity through our collaborations. By engaging students in real-world projects, we are advancing label design while providing valuable educational opportunities to ensure our labels align with the expectations of Generation Z consumers,” remarks Riccardo Sauvaigne, Marketing and Innovation Director, Eurostampa.
The designs crafted for this project are currently on display at Eurostampa’s booth at Luxe Pack, offering a glimpse into the future of food and drink sustainable packaging.
