Tetra Pak has joined forces with a prominent European juice brand to unveil the Tetra Prisma Aseptic 300 Edge beverage carton. This innovative package is crafted to attract young consumers and active adults, coinciding with students returning to school after the summer break.

The package’s ergonomic design not only enhances its aesthetic appeal but also stands out on retail shelves. Its tall, slim profile aligns with the preferences of contemporary consumers who favor such packaging.

According to Tetra Pak, research from the Tetra Pak-WGSN Design Trend Forecast 2023-2024 shows that buyers are increasingly favoring a ‘less is more’ design ethos. This trend emphasizes a minimalist approach characterized by simplicity and functionality.

Notably, the Tetra Prisma Aseptic 300 Edge carton is designed for comfort, particularly for users with smaller hands. The wide opening allows for a smooth drinking experience, while the compact size makes it ideal for consumption on the go.

This innovative carton reduces product wastage by integrating a slanted top and a DreamCap 26 Pro tethered closure, which minimizes litter by keeping the cap attached to the package. Consumers can conveniently recycle both the cap and carton in the proper bin once the drink is finished.

Moreover, this leading European juice brand has chosen to increase the renewable materials in the packaging to over 85%, resulting in a 76% reduction in the carbon footprint of the carton, as verified by the Carbon Trust’s Tetra Pak ‘Carton CO2 Calculator’ model version 10 (valid from April 2024).

This reduction is achieved by utilizing paperboard sourced from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified and controlled sources, along with plant-based polymers derived from responsibly sourced sugarcane. This decreased environmental impact is particularly appealing to younger consumers, who are increasingly making eco-conscious purchasing decisions, as highlighted by research from Harvard Business Review.

The Tetra Prisma Aseptic 300 Edge carton is suitable for a variety of on-the-go beverages, including dairy products, juices, and functional drinks. It operates seamlessly on the new Tetra Pak A3/CompactFlex filling machine, and can be integrated with existing lines through a straightforward, cost-effective upgrade. This flexibility allows for five packaging configurations on a single filling machine, enhancing production efficiency and expanding the available on-the-go product range. Such versatility helps food and beverage (F&B) brands select packaging tailored to specific consumer needs, thereby reaching a broader audience.

In terms of logistics, the taller and slimmer design of this carton enables a higher number of litres and up to 10% more packages per pallet compared to the Tetra Prisma Aseptic 330 package. This results in fewer shipments while maximizing product delivery.

Francesco Faella, Vice President of the Ambient Business Sector at Tetra Pak, emphasized that the collaboration with the European juice brand, along with the launch of the Tetra Prisma Aseptic 300 Edge, addresses the industry’s demand for enhanced flexibility and stylish design to help brands distinguish themselves in the market.

“Importantly, we are doing this while also addressing consumer preferences and expectations. Based on our recent global research, environmental concerns remain high for 76% of respondents, with over 60% choosing products that have environmentally sound packaging in a bid to protect future generations, and one fifth exhibiting a preference for containers made of renewable materials.”
