As we approach FACHPACK 2024, leading film manufacturer SÜDPACK has introduced an innovative solution in food and drink packaging: PET floatable lidding films. Designed for use on mono-APET trays, these low-density, sealable top webs can be efficiently separated during the recycling process, resulting in cleanly recycled materials suitable for various material flows. This advancement offers a sustainable packaging alternative for safely packaging sliced meat, ham, and cheese within peelable, thermoformed, and MAP packaging formats. Notably, the PET floatable lidding films ensure performance and processing reliability comparable to conventional lidding solutions.

This product line includes both a peelable variant and a lidding option featuring Multipeel technology for exceptional opening and reclosing capabilities. Consumers gain added convenience from secure closing, which enhances the protection and extends the shelf life of packaged foods. Furthermore, Multipeel® PET floatable contributes to reducing the carbon footprint through two essential means: recyclable packaging and prolonged food freshness.

Exceptional Product Performance

Peel PET floatable stands out as a premium choice in terms of packaging safety and functionality. The ultra-thin lidding film (45 µm) forms a secure seal against PET trays, effectively preventing contamination from fats. It easily peels away from trays without tearing or rolling, thus enhancing user experience. The high oxygen barrier ensures optimal protection for the products, while impressive anti-fog properties maintain clarity in the lidding film. This clarity translates to an attractive presentation at the point of sale, which consumers recognize as an indicator of quality in both the product and its packaging.

Another significant benefit of Peel PET floatable is its compatibility with existing production processes, negating the need for costly adjustments to machinery. The high-performance films can be utilized just like traditional lidding films on thermoforming packaging machines and tray sealers. With excellent sealing properties and a broad processing window, they guarantee versatility and maximum reliability in packaging and processing.

Recyclability: A Key Value Proposition

SÜDPACK empowers its customers to pair the new Peel or Multipeel PET floatable solutions with mono-APET trays, allowing them to claim their packaging concepts as recyclable. This initiative significantly enhances resource conservation and sustainability efforts. “The good separability as well as the low weight share of the top web in the overall packaging deliver a recyclability of over 80%. The first customer applications are already being implemented,” highlights Valeska Haux, Vice President of Strategic Marketing & Sustainability at SÜDPACK.
