Smurfit Kappa is making a substantial investment of €54 million to double the capacity of its Ibi Bag-in-Box plant in Alicante, Spain. This strategic move will not only strengthen the sustainability of the plant’s operations and product portfolio but also lead to enhanced waste management systems and significant savings in energy consumption. The Bag-in-Box Ibi plant has a strong track record in recycling, boasting several state-of-the-art systems for identifying and separating by-products.

CEO of Smurfit Kappa Europe, Saverio Mayer, emphasized the company’s commitment to the Bag-in-Box division and its multi-country expansion plan. He pointed out the impressive investment of €90 million in the Ibi plant over the last decade, which has significantly improved the company’s offering. Moreover, he highlighted that choosing Smurfit Kappa means customers can expect a beautifully designed bag-in-box with a reduced carbon footprint.

General Manager of the Smurfit Kappa Ibi plant, Pascual Martínez, expressed pride in taking Ibi to the next level through this investment. He also mentioned the creation of 200 new jobs for the local economy and the talent and skill of the team at the plant, which can tackle even the most complex challenges, signaling an exciting new chapter for Ibi.

With a focus on creating a broad range of products for wine, dairy products, liquid eggs, cooking oils, and water, Bag-in-Box Ibi highlights Smurfit Kappa’s position as the No.1 provider of Bag-in-Box packaging in Europe.
