The “CAN-paign” by Zero Waste Scotland aims to promote tinned food as a way to reduce food waste. The Metal Packaging Manufacturers Association (MPMA), which is responsible for CFUK, has pledged full support for the campaign. This includes sharing their wide range of resources such as booklets and tinned-food-based recipes, as well as promoting ZWS’s content through CFUK’s social media campaigns.

Robert Fell, director and chief executive of the MPMA, expressed his delight at the partnership, stating that they will work together to reach as many households as possible in Scotland. Tinned food has numerous benefits as it is cost-effective, provides nutritional value, and has a long shelf life. It also plays an important role in sustainability and reducing food waste, with the added advantage of being infinitely recyclable.

Iain Gulland, chief executive of Zero Waste Scotland, added that they intend to dispel misconceptions about canned food and emphasize its advantages in reducing household food waste and avoiding the landfill. By highlighting its cost-effectiveness and versatility, they aim to put affordable, tasty, and healthy food options on every household’s table.

In conclusion, the partnership between ZWS and CFUK is a step forward towards a better and more practical solution in reducing food waste and promoting sustainability. It is critical to use tinned food as an important staple in every household’s weekly food shopping, thus ensuring a balanced diet and reducing the amount of food waste.
