Sabert Unveils PULPUltra™: A Revolutionary Food Packaging Solution Bio-based, food and drink packaging, food and drink sustainable packaging, Food packaging, Recyclability Food and Beverage Business

Following its success in Ireland with custom children’s meal packaging and in France with the Gastronorme range, Sabert Corporation Europe is excited to announce the rollout of its latest innovation, PULPUltra™, across Europe, the UK, and Ireland.

“Over a decade ago, Sabert was the first to bring quality, functional bagasse pulp packaging solutions to the European market,” says Alex Noake, Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Sabert Europe. “Now, we are pioneering PULPUltra™, a groundbreaking next-generation formulation free from intentionally added PFAS, designed to meet evolving legislative standards while also exceeding customer expectations for strength and heat resistance.”

PULPUltra™ – Free from Intentionally Added PFAS

PULPUltra™ merges high performance with versatility, making it an ideal choice for fresh, ready-to-eat meals and hot food applications. Composed of over 95% bagasse fibers, it features a barrier spray coating that enhances its functionality.

This innovative packaging solution is freezer-safe, ensuring the integrity of frozen goods, freshness of perishables, and maintaining the quality of factory-prepared items. Furthermore, it offers compatibility with microwaves, conventional ovens, and MerryChef equipment, while being suitable for both single PET sealing and multi-welding. In terms of sustainability, PULPUltra™ is recyclable (rated green in the UK’s Recycling Assessment Methodology (RAM)), complies with the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), and holds a TÜV OK Compost Industrial certification for compostability. Home compostable certification will also soon be announced.

Prioritizing Food Safety

“Every product we make is rigorously tested to comply with food safety standards,” states Sabert Quality Environment, Health & Safety Manager Isabelle Ernotte.

“From 12 August 2026, Regulation (EU) No 40/2025 on PPWR introduces new measures, including Article 5(5) paragraph 5, of Regulation (EU) No 40/2025, which restricts and imposes limits on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly known as ‘forever chemicals’ due to their persistence in both the environment and the human body.

“Sabert’s PULPUltra™ will empower customers to stay ahead of these changes, offering products that already align with the next evolution of sustainability standards.”

Award-Winning Innovation

At its launch, PULPUltra™ received the Green Apple Awards’ National Silver in the Paper & Packaging category from The Green Organisation.

“This award highlights our dedication to innovation and compliance with the stringent European standards,” concludes Alex Noake. “In alignment with new regulatory requirements, Sabert has transformed its entire pulp portfolio into the HC (home compostable) range, and we take pride in launching PULPUltra across Europe.”

“The introduction of PULPUltra™ demonstrates that Sabert remains committed to advancing food and drink packaging solutions that nourish and protect our planet, while ensuring food presentation is always appealing!”
