Plastic Bank, a social enterprise that addresses ocean plastic pollution and empowers collection communities to overcome poverty, will be participating in London Packaging Week from September 21 to 22, 2023, at ExCeL London.
Plastic Bank’s Founder and Chairman, David Katz, will deliver two speeches on the Food & Consumer Pack’s platform, offering valuable industry insights and guidance for both businesses and consumers to actively contribute to creating a regenerative future.
On September 21, Katz will join the panel, “The Big Question: What is the Goal?” at 2:15 PM BST. The discussion will explore how businesses and individuals can play a role in building a circular economy, with a focus on the interconnectedness of our actions in achieving broader sustainability objectives.
On September 22, Katz will take the stage once again to deliver a keynote address at 11:30 AM BST. His speech will challenge the audience to rethink discarded plastic as not just waste, but rather as a transformative resource with the potential to improve lives. Furthermore, Katz will discuss how businesses can drive change by balancing profit with social and environmental impact.
“We’ve been mistaken all along. Our perception of plastic as a disposable material, contaminating our oceans, planet, and communities, is fundamentally flawed. It’s not the plastic that’s the problem, but rather our treatment of it,” stated Katz.
“It’s time to embrace a paradigm shift and recognize discarded plastic for what it truly represents – a resource that can drive innovation across numerous industries while simultaneously creating positive environmental and social impact in coastal communities,” added Katz.
Plastic Bank’s Social Recycling movement has successfully prevented over 95 million kilograms of plastic from entering the ocean, which is equivalent to eliminating 4.7 billion plastic bottles. Additionally, it has empowered more than 38,000 collection members to overcome poverty through plastic exchange, providing them with additional income and life-improving benefits.
